Cerbo GX connection guide: which cable do I need?

Match the cable to your device's communication port first, then choose the length for your installation. VE.Direct, VE.Bus and VE.Can are different interfaces, not interchangeable cable options. Check your exact model's manual before ordering.

Connected device Cerbo connection Cable to choose
SmartShunt or compatible BMV battery monitor with a VE.Direct port VE.Direct One VE.Direct cable per device. Choose 0.3m, 0.9m, 1.8m, 3m or 10m.
Compatible SmartSolar or BlueSolar MPPT with a VE.Direct port VE.Direct One VE.Direct cable per device. Choose 0.3m, 0.9m, 1.8m, 3m or 10m. Confirm GX compatibility for older models.
Orion XS DC-DC charger with a VE.Direct port VE.Direct One VE.Direct cable per device. Choose 0.3m, 0.9m, 1.8m, 3m or 10m. Do not assume other Orion models use this connection.
MultiPlus or Quattro with VE.Bus VE.Bus Use the VE.Bus RJ45 connection cable specified in the device manual, not a VE.Direct cable.
VE.Can MPPT, Lynx Smart BMS or other supported VE.Can device VE.Can Use the specified VE.Can RJ45 cabling and terminate both ends of the bus. A VE.Direct cable is not suitable.
Supported managed CAN-bus battery CAN port with the required profile Use the battery-specific cable, CAN profile and termination specified by Victron and the battery manufacturer. An RJ45 connector alone does not establish compatibility.

All five linked VE.Direct lengths were in stock when this guide was added; availability can change. Length affects routing, not device compatibility. Measure the cable route and allow room for connections. VE.Direct cables have a maximum length of 10m and must not be extended.

Plan your accessories

The Cerbo GX MK2 has three VE.Direct ports. Additional supported VE.Direct devices require a VE.Direct-to-USB interface, with a USB hub if needed. Device communication cables and the optional GX Touch display are separate purchases. The supplied accessories include a fused power cable and two VE.Can terminators.

What works without internet?

Local Remote Console access works over the Cerbo's WiFi access point or a local LAN/WiFi network without internet. An optional GX Touch provides local display access. VRM remote access requires an internet connection. Bluetooth assists initial connection and network setup; it does not replace wired connections to your Victron devices.

What is different about MK2?

MK2 provides two configurable CAN interfaces, with VE.Can 1 galvanically isolated, three fully functional USB host ports, and rotated RJ45 sockets for easier cable removal.

For exact model requirements, see the Victron Cerbo GX connection manual.
